I passed by and remember
The passing of time
Of a mighty science’s admission of guilt and surrender
To the accusation of an environmental crime.
The ruins speak of losing to unwarranted lies
About every tree being cut and sawn
Dooms our future, as our planet dies
In the face of the scorching rays of the sun.
Trees grow and breath the carbon
That poisons the earth, and produces heat and storm
Well-meant voices made people easily accept the lie
That cutting trees is worse than seeing them naturally die.
Few know that when trees into wood are turned
The carbon in wooden houses constructed is forever imprisoned
And the growing of trees planted to replace the ones harvested
Would continue to clean our air of the carbon that is unwanted.
Alack those guided by science withdrew and opted not to fight
They re-imaged themselves by accepting the charges of not being right
They reframed their defeat with the pretext of being a paradigm shift
And we now stand witness to a surrender being presented as an environmental gift.
Traditional boundaries are now breached by a made-over knowledge
Steel and cement now replace wood that is in utter shortage
Even as trees are planted and not felled, carbon continues to poison the air
And ruined sawmills bear witness to a surrender beyond compare.
